Masonry

A Team of Masons with Decades of Experience

For half a century, Sal Pilato has been working with stone in Connecticut’s Fairfield County and New York’s Westchester County. Like Sal, Pasquale and the Pilato’s Artscape team are respected for quality craftsmanship and attentive client service. Value, precision, and material selection set our work apart from other masons. After discussing material, site specifics, taste, budget and other considerations, we ensure our projects are carried out as planned.

The masons at Pilato’s Artscape are experienced in various masonry techniques: dry stone, with mortar joints, using polymeric sand or set in stone dust. Most importantly, the masons on the team are highly skilled stone cutters who truly enjoy their work. You can hear it in their whistle while they cut, shape and sculpt stones with precision.

Walls

When excavating a hillside and creating a retaining wall, it is critical to have the experience to know how to avert potential problems. Thoughtful consideration and planning add tremendous value and sustainability to the success of a project. Some of our specialties include:

Steps & Walkways

Steps and stairs create, define and shape the space around your home and garden. Since Fairfield County has many beautiful, rolling hills and ridges, stone steps are popular projects. We consider the aesthetic and material of a home when designing new step projects. Once stone material is selected, we consider and discuss the possibilities of the stones’ shape, cut, dimension, color, texture, placement, joint material and pattern.

Walkways and paths also help create direction to your home and within your landscape. With attention to materials, organization and layers, paths and walkways become expressive features to a home and landscape. Natural cut or irregular cut stones, spaced wide apart create a character and cadence to a garden. A seamless line of flagstone may set a more subtle tempo.

Patio & Pool

Flagstone is a common material to use for our patio projects. Examples of flagstone material are slate, bluestone, redstone, sandstone, and limestone. Most of the projects here are created with traditional, rectangular-cut flagstone. However, flagstone can be cut to a client’s specification.

Some of the most unique patio projects are paver patios. Clients are able to pick a style, design and material custom to their taste.

Entryways & Home Construction

A natural stone entrance or building facade provides a first impression and sets a tone for a home. In Fairfield and in Westchester counties, stone landings and steps are not only popular but practical, durable solutions.

Rock faced, natural stone with a 2″ or 3″ tread provides a rustic yet stately look. It makes a statement, iconic to New England. Flagstone landings and steps are also versatile, practical and durable. They not only offer a clean aesthetic, but offer stable grounds for rocky soil and uneven grounds. To provide a more country aesthetic, many home owners like to include field stone. For a timeless look, Belgium block can help create a clean and classic front entrance.

Property Features

Focal points to a property can range from a modest planter or birdbath to palatial entryway, terrace, or fountain. We craft stone sculptures and installations that serve as a centerpiece to gardens and landscapes. For some of the grand New England estates found in Connecticut and regionally, we have worked with architects, landscape designers, stone artisans, and homeowners to create unique and classic stone features that compliment and define a property.
